I am just about to start trying to lose a lot of weight but don’t really know what I should specifically do. I know I need to exercise and eat healthier but what should I actually start doing right away to dive head on into this whole process. I’ve had a number of issues in the past trying to combat this demon but haven’t had much success at all over the years. Please help!
Healthy Question of the Week 10
I’m glad to hear you’re going to tackle the weight loss issue and work on improving your health. This can very well be the most important decision you make for your health and well-being and one that can dramatically change your life. You’ll find the longer you stick with this process, a whole new outlook on life will start to emerge.
One of the first things you should focus on is the portion size you consume at each meal along with the types of beverages you drink. When I first started out on this weight loss journey, I found out right away that practically everyday I was taking in way too many calories. More than double what my body needed. No wonder I was gaining weight on a daily basis. If you want to find out home many calories you should be eating regularly, check this out: http://www.calorieking.com/…how-many-calories-should-you-eat/
To put it bluntly, one large fast food meal can easily total your entire calorie count for the whole day! That’s how easy it is to overeat and why it’s so important to be mindful of what and where you eat. Instead of going to Burger King to get a double whopper with cheese combo and a large soda, which unfortunately totals more than 1,780 calories, that amount can easily be divided over 3 healthy meals along with 2 healthy snacks spread out throughout the day. Hence the need to prepare everything at home as often as possible.
Sure it will take a little time and definitely some willpower to get over the cravings especially if you are used to eating this type of meal regularly, but believe me it can be done! I used to eat fast food almost everyday of my life for the better part of a decade. One of the main reasons why I ballooned to nearly 300 pounds and was borderline diabetic.
Nothing good will come from continuing to eat fast food on a regular basis. You will find when you have a sensible meal of around 400-500 calories and get used to drinking one or two large glasses of water with each meal, you will get full. Sure that might sound strange right now but give it a try to see what you think. I now drink water with practically every meal and it really doesn’t take much to take away that feeling of hunger when you eat sensibly and fill your body with nutritious water.
Why toss in a soda with 200-400 wasted calories into your body when water is healthy for you and has exactly 0 calories?
Tackling your daily nutrition will likely be the number one obstacle you’ll have to deal with but when you get a hold of this issue, the rest of the process is a downhill trek. When you combine your healthy eating habits with a regular form of exercise, you will really see the weight start falling off and the light will turn on in your head since you’ll realize exactly what it takes to lose weight in a natural, healthy way.
The most important point to keep in mind is not to be afraid to try new things. Keep in mind your overall goal, and remind yourself you are doing this for YOUR health. This is a brand new opportunity to try something completely new. Maybe something you’ve always wanted to do but never got around to actually making that happen.
