question of the week 1

Actual reader question sent in by email

I’m almost 25 years old and currently fluctuating between being a size 16 and 14. I really want to lose weight and be a minimum of size 10 or 8. I’ve been trying to lose weight almost all my life. Please help me. Thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to write in. That takes courage and shows you are ready to make a healthy change in your life. If you are really want to drop that weight, one of the MOST important items of business you need to take care of is your daily nutrition. Now before you think “yeah, yeah, I will eat healthier”, it’s so crucial you take this to heart.

Healthy Question of the Week

Our body only needs a certain amount of “fuel” every day. When we take in too much fuel, we gain weight, if we take in a tad less food per day we will lose weight in a cumulative fashion. This is why it’s so important to not only eat in a healthier manner, but also monitor portion size so that we do not overeat and take in far too many calories.

Each and every day we ALL must deal with 3-7 moments where food/drinks potentially enter our body whether it be one of the three main meals of the day, or other snacking instance. At each one of these moments we have the potential to overeat. If we lose control at just one of these moments, likely we’ll go over our calorie allowance for the day.

start to be greatThis is what makes losing weight so difficult and why it really takes a focused effort to change our eating habits around. Be willing to give up that sugary soda and opt for water instead. Ditch the chips and cookies for fruit or yogurt. Cakes, ice cream, cupcakes, and pies will do nothing but pack on more pounds. Revamp your nutrition and you will find that losing weight is not as impossible as it may have seemed.

This took me AWHILE to grasp a hold of especially since I was a DAILY fast food eater. I slowly, over half a year, broke that habit and finally got used to preparing my meals at home. Once I did this, and monitored my portion size, the weight really started to come off – especially when I got used to working out regularly but that’s a whole different story :-)

Here’s a compilation of healthy meals each offering a leftover idea you can try out to help improve your daily nutrition. Let me know what you think –>

Remember, weight loss doesn’t happen overnight but only after a commitment over time. You can do it! It only takes the courage to try something new, and the willingness to stick with it for a prolonged period of time.
